Derek Carr is a rookie quarterback that can really give himself a chance to start tonight if he plays well as the starter tonight. Starting quarterback Matt Schaub has been ineffective this preseason due to elbow tendinitis so he’s sitting this one out. Once you get tendinitis, you never know when it’s going to flare up so the organization’s plan for Schaub is precarious to say the least.

Offensive coordinator Greg Olson feels comfortable with him, saying at the press conference yesterday on Raiders.com, “The guy’s comfortable in the huddle. The game’s not too big for him. I still believe he sees the field well. The game’s not to fast for him which a lot of times, I think it’s a big concern for a rookie quarterback but he’s done some really nice things in the preseason in terms of is pocket presence.”

I know the organization still plans to start Schaub Week 1 but Carr can turn that around if he displays all the traits Olson described tonight.
