Derek Carr has to be starter for the Oakland Raiders

He’s Ready!

Carr isn’t your average NFL rookie quarterback as many of them have a lot of polishing and developing to do. Most of them have to develop their accuracy and adjust to the speed of the NFL game. The biggest one is learning how to prepare for an NFL game but Carr has all of those things down already.

His accuracy is there and please remember what offensive coordinator Greg Olson said about Carr in the post practice press conference shown on Raiders.com. He said, “The game’s not too fast for him which a lot of times, I think it’s a big concern for a rookie quarterback.” So Carr is fully developed mentally and that stems from the upbringing he had with his brother David Carr teaching him how to prepare for an NFL game.

Carr said of is experiences, “I remember David getting ready for the [Jacksonville] Jaguars. I come home after school and I remember him saying, ‘If they play cover 1, it can be man and it’ll be this blitz.’ I went to the game on Sunday and I was telling my dad, hey, they’re going to bring this blitz and it would happen. I don’t think 12-year-olds are supposed to be doing that. It’s a huge advantage to have that training.”

If you watched the preseason finale, you can see just how polished he is on the 36-yard touchdown to Denarius Moore. Instead of staring down his target the way Schaub does these days, he looked the safety off and he was no where near the play. He already has that good habit because he’s been taking mental NFL reps since he was 12 so there’s nothing left to teach him but experience.
