Jadeveon Clowney out for Oakland Raiders game with torn meniscus

Rough news regarding the first overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft and one of the most anticipated college pass rushers to hit the pros in recent memory is coming in as ESPN are reporting that Jadeveon Clowney could have a meniscus tear as the Houston Texans fear they could be losing the top pick in last year’s draft just one week into the season.

Clowney suffered the injury against Washington at home during Sunday’s win that pushed Houston to 1-0 and on track to bounce back from a season that was a nightmare in 2013 when the Texans went from preseason contenders in the AFC to worst in the league, earning the right to bring in the most highly touted player of the decade to the franchise. Now according to Adam Schefter the Texans are now worrying about his status this season which would be lost with surgery, something that puts his status for next Sunday in Oakland as extremely doubtful.

Clowney’s absence would be a huge break for the Raiders offensive line after the Jets dominated the line of scrimmage in Week 1, but the focus right now is on the potential loss of a rookie season for a player that nearly everyone was looking forward to making the jump to the NFL. Ready for Sunday’s for arguably the past two seasons while in South Carolina, Clowney’s meniscus tear is an awful break for a player who at times was touted as a can’t miss future Hall of Famer while playing for the Gamecocks. Update: Clowney will be out 4-6 weeks, making him officially out of Sunday’s game in Oakland.
