Kelvin Taylor, Florida
Kelvin Taylor, son of former NFL running back Fred Taylor, made a clear effort to succeed in his father’s shadow, as the two both took their talents to the University of Florida and assumed starting roles at the running back position before entering the NFL.
Before joining the Gators, Kelvin Taylor took hold of the Florida high school rushing record, as he accumulated 12,121 yards and 191 touchdowns as a five-year varsity player (his first year as an eighth grader), via Lance Zierlein of NFL.com.
After spending time in a tandem role with now Washington Redskins back Matt Jones as a sophomore, Taylor became the lead back as a junior in his final season with Florida. In 2015, he carried the ball 259 times for 1,035 yards and 13 touchdowns.
At 5’10”, 207 pounds, Taylor is a bit undersized for the position, but he still excels as a quick, shifty back with an adept ability to make people miss in space and appropriately explode through the correct hole. Though he possesses elite quickness, his top-speed isn’t desirable. Taylor lacks the experience and sheer mass to produce as a bell-cow back, but he is capable of becoming a change-of-pace back behind a downhill runner as a rookie.
