Oakland Raiders position group preview: Wide Receiver
Drafting Hunter Renfrow
The Raiders grabbed Hunter Renfrow in the draft with their fifth-round pick. He provides an abundance of qualities that he’ll bring to the wide receiver group, such as superior route running and exceptional hands.
Most notably, Renfrow burst onto the scene during the college football playoff’s when he torched the Alabama defense during his freshman campaign. Renfrow walked on at Clemson, and turned a lot of heads when he flashed on college football’s biggest stage.
The former Clemson walk-on always appeared to be their playmaker to depend on in critical situations. Renforw is a legitimate chain mover, and he’s suited to do the same for Derek Carr and the Raiders offense.
During his time at “Death Valley” he caught 186 balls for 2,133-yards and 15 touchdowns over four seasons.
It appears Gruden will look for Renfow to be his slot receiver for the foreseeable future, but will also see some time outside the hashes. Renforw is listed at 5’10” 184 pounds which is undersized to play on the outside, but his skill set plays a much bigger role than what’s listed.
