Trouble at QB2

While it is set in concrete that Derek Carr will be the Week 1 starter for the Raiders, barring any kind of catastrophe this summer, who will be his backup is still up in the air. During the team’s preseason opener, veteran Mike Glennon got the start, and looked very good early on, leading the team to a touchdown on their opening drive.

After that, it was kind of downhill for Glennon, who threw two interceptions, including one at the goal line. He did not do enough to warrant the team feeling comfortable with him as the backup to Carr, and when Nathan Peterman came in, aside from a couple of big plays, he kind of looked lost in the Raiders offense.

Carr is a solid NFL quarterback, but if he happens to go down due to injury, as he has the last couple of seasons, the Raiders are in big trouble behind him. Last year, the team brought in A.J. McCarron at the end of the summer, and if Glennon and Peterman can not separate themselves from each other, we may go down that road once again.
