Raiders cornerback Gareon Conley didn’t have the season debut he was hoping for once he was carted off the field Monday night. On Thursday the Raiders announced some positive news regarding Conley’s status.

Gareon Conley experienced an abrupt ending to his 2019 debut on Monday after suffering a neck injury during the Oakland Raiders 24-16 win. Conley left the game being carted off, giving his teammates and fans a thumbs up before he was taken to the hospital.

On Tuesday, he was released from the hospital and Conley took to twitter announcing that he was alright.

Positive signs of Conley’s status came when he was a limited participate for Wednesday’s practice and following that up with a similar Thursday protocol.

Defensive coordinator Paul Guenther said after practice during his press conference that Conley is “good to go” for this week’s matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Conley playing this week is a huge weight lifted off the shoulders of the Oakland secondary. They’re already without starting safety Johnathan Abram, so having Conley ready for week 2 is great given the uncertainty that the team had after Monday’s game.

Oakland’s defense couldn’t afford two starters to be out if they want to stop the Chiefs high-powered offense. Oakland’s recipe for success against the Chiefs will be avoiding an offensive shootout.

Kansas City can throw points on the scoreboard with the best of them, putting their offense among the league’s best, so minimizing the damage and playing a stout defense early on will be required for the Raiders to give them a run.

Conley is a huge figure for Oakland’s defense as last season he recorded three interceptions, 19 passes defended, and 37 total tackles. With Tyreek Hill out for Sunday’s game, Conley will likely see a lot of action covering Sammy Watkins.
