2020 NFL 7-round mock draft: Raiders bolster edge, WR in 1st round
The Raiders core of wide receivers has been a revolving door for quarterback Derek Carr in 2019. With Oakland already trading two mid-round picks to acquire Trevor Davis and Zay Jones, it’s time the Raiders dip their toes into a highly touted draft prospect.
Henry Ruggs III is one of the most dynamic pass catchers in all of college football and there’s no reason why Jon Gruden wouldn’t be intrigued with his skill set. Ruggs would immediately become the Raiders fastest weapon on offense as he possesses legit 4.2 speed. Even with his elite breakaway speed, Ruggs still remains excellent body control on contested catches. He’s just flat-out special!
His numbers don’t always reflect his incredible ability because of Alabama’s loaded offense. Even with guys in his offensive attack such as Josh Jacobs, Irv Smith Jr, Damien Williams, Jerry Jeudy and DeVonta Smith over the last two seasons, he’s still delivered when looked upon. In his last two seasons in Tuscaloosa, Ruggs has caught hauled in 72 catches for 1,254 and 17 touchdowns.
Pros:
- Burning speed
- Short area quickness
- Competitive demeanor
Cons:
- Frame size
- Route tree
- Strength for blocking
