Maurice Hurst

You might be asking yourself why Maurice Hurst finds himself on the hot seat, after all, he has shown flashes of good play. Unlike Hall, Hurst’s roster spot is safe, but that doesn’t mean his seat isn’t warming as he enters Year 3.

If Hurst wants to be apart of this team for the long haul, he will need to continue to elevate his play.  For years the defense has lacked a presence in the middle that can generate pressure on a consistent basis, and the hope was that Hurst could become that kind of player for this franchise moving forward.

Let’s not forget Hurst was projected as a late first-round talent prior to being flagged at the combine with a heart condition.  The Raiders were able to get him in the fifth round, which turned some heads at the time, but he has played solid football for the Raiders

P.J. Hall and Maurice Hurst could find themselves in a head-to-head battle for reps during training camp, and that will be a storyline to follow through training camp and preseason. Hurst has had a better start to his NFL career so far, and is still very young, but at this point, the Raiders need to get more out of him, and Hall.
