3 free agents who can help the Las Vegas Raiders in 2020
Will Compton, Linebacker
The Las Vegas Raiders have had their fair share of linebacker woes over the past decade, as injuries and ineffective moves in free agents have plagued the second line of defense. Mike Mayock spent this offseason addressing the linebacker position, and brought in Nick Kwiatkoski and Cory Littleton, who have both had a great deal of success in their young careers.
Undrafted rookie Javin White has been impressing coaches in camp as well, but the question is always depth, and when planning for the season, coaches must take in account what happens at the second level at the event of an injury or suspension. In 2019, the Raiders were plagued with both at the linebacker position, as middle linebacker Vontaze Burfict was suspended for the season following a helmet to helmet hit against Colts tight end Jack Doyle.
In addition, injuries to Nicholas Morrow, Marquel Lee and Tahir Whitehead lead to the Raiders bringing in the wily veteran, Will Compton.
Compton energized the defense and led that side of the ball in tackles across the final three games of the season while he wore the green dot calling the defense. Adding Compton to the depth chart would prove to be a savvy move, as he is a player who is comfortable in the defensive system, and someone who can still contribute at a high level.
