Las Vegas Raiders: 3 possible surprise cut candidates after training camp

LB Nicholas Morrow

Nicholas Morrow is somehow one of the longest serving players on the Raiders roster, having been with the team since 2017. The former undrafted free agent scratched and clawed his way on to the team, and has hung on for dear life as a special teams player, and has even started 18 games over the last three seasons.

However, this was when the linebacker position was among the worst in the league, and the Raiders have made huge strides with the group this offseason. He was projected to start as the third linebacker but he is now solely a reserve after the trade for Raekwon McMillan.

The Raiders may look at his $3.3 million salary and no dead money and wonder if that is worth paying for a reserve linebacker that does not stand out in any category. If they are looking for speed, they can lean on youngster Javin White, and if they are looking for a thumper type, they can keep the recently signed Kyle Emanuel on the roster instead.

A lot can change in the period of a month, and a player that was listed as a starter before training camp could see himself looking for a new team come Saturday. He could also be a practice squad candidate given his experience in Paul Guenther’s system, but there will be no tears shed if he ends up poached by another team.
