Las Vegas Raiders 2020 Week 1 Review: 3 Studs and 3 Duds

Duds

No. 1: The Defensive Line

What a disappointing start to the season for this defensive line, and while they did make the 4th down stop to end the game, it was a bad game for them nonetheless.  Teddy Bridgewater had all day to throw behind his average offensive line, McCaffrey dominated them in the second half, and the line only combined for one sack.

The real issue was how vanilla the playcalling was as well, with Rod Marinelli just trying to bullrush all game. Props though to Maurice Hurst for the first Las Vegas sack, and Clelin Ferrell for his huge play late.

No. 2: The Linebackers

For all the hype the linebackers had coming into this season, it didn’t really pan out in this first game.  Nick Kwitkowski got hurt in the second quarter, Nicholas Morrow let a interception go right through his hands and into a receiver’s, and Cory Littleton was just okay in his Raiders debut.

As long as Kwitkowski avoids a long term injury, i have a feeling this group will be fine, after all, it was the first game in a new system for both. If Kwiatkoski is gone for a while, the trade for Raekwon McMillon in the offseason may prove to be more valuable than before.

No. 3: Bryan Edwards

He wasn’t a dud in a sense that he played bad at all, but he still only had one catch for 9 yards in his debut game.  He was the buzz all of training camp, and flat out didn’t get used enough against this young, and injured secondary of the Panthers.

I expect Edwards to do much more going forward, and he did throw a couple of nice blocks in the running game, but Raider Nation will not be satisfied until he wins a 50/50 jump ball for a touchdown catch.
