Raiders QB Derek Carr deserves to be in the MVP conversation
Looking into the statistics
Carr is the most prolific passer in team history, so when you look at his career statistics, any team would be happy with that kind of production through their first six-and-a-half seasons. He is the franchise leader in nearly every statistic category, and since Gruden’s arrival, has been one of the more steady quarterbacks in the league.
In 2020, Carr is absolutely exploding, and is on pace to throw for over 4,000 yards for the third straight season, and have a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 32-to-4. In addition, he is once again completing nearly 70 percent of his passes, and has also been making plays with his feet, something Gruden has wanted him to do since he arrived.
Overall, he has not only put together solid stats, but even in games where he does not light up the statline, he is the major reason why the team wins. He has had so many steady drives, and late game heroics, and has absolutely mastered Gruden’s offense.
This season, Carr was to be judged by mostly just one statistic, and that is wins, and he has certainly done his part in the team’s five victories. Looking at his numbers, he is on pace for one of the best seasons in franchise history from any quarterback, and there has been some great ones.
