The Las Vegas Raiders secondary still needs a lot of help, and they could get some from New York Jets safety Marcus Maye.

A unit that needs assistance next year will be the Las Vegas Raiders’ defensive backfield. Particularly, they need help at safety, so it would make sense that Marcus Maye be on their radar, right?

Fans might not agree on current Raiders safety Johnathan Abram, as he’s become quite a divisive subject. His play can be polarizing at times, and while fans love the fact he can punish a receiver or running back, they get frustrated by the fact that he tends to miss coverage assignments. Or worse, he’ll commit foolish penalties or get himself injured, which hurts Las Vegas either way.

Nonetheless, this was essentially his rookie year, so he gets a pass for now. Upgrading the rest of the unit should be Mike Mayock and Jon Gruden’s priority right out of the gate this offseason.

The question is which route Raiders’ brass will take, free agency or the draft? The team has to make some difficult decisions regarding some players this upcoming offseason, as there are plenty of guys with expiring contracts, and there is no doubt Mayock will have to restructure the roster to accommodate the new salary cap.

How this will affect the Raiders’ plan, well we don’t know yet. Finding a way to bring in Maye would, however, be huge. Let’s take a closer look at Maye’s 2020 season and what it could mean for the Silver and Black.
