Raiders must manage the salary cap to make this work
The Raiders are going to have a lot of difficult decisions to make in the 2021 offseason, and that includes releasing certain players. There has been plenty of discussion on the contracts of Tyrell Williams, Lamarcus Joyner, and Trent Brown, all of whom I expect to be gone this offseason.
It is more than likely that all three of those players are not on the Las Vegas Raiders in the 2021 campaign, and that would clear up a ton of cap space. The Raiders will be looking to clear the cap to clean up the defensive side of the ball, and potentially re-sign a player like Nelson Agholor, so they have a lot of work left to do entering the new league year.
John Johnson III will be looking to command top-dollar in free agency and the Raiders should not be afraid to pursue that. Spotrac recently listed his market value at a little over $8 million per season, which would be money well spent if he can come in and help fix this porous defense.
With a player like Justin Simmons likely receiving the franchise tag, Johnson III is likely the best safety on the market.
