2021 NFL Draft: Las Vegas Raiders trade down in 7-round mock
The fact that he played for Clemson may be enough for the Raiders to take him, but Cornell Powell offers a nice all-around skill set that can transition to the next level. Powell had to wait his turn behind multiple big-time players while at Clemson, but when his time came, he was ready. He finished 2020 with 53 catches for 882 yards and seven touchdowns.
Despite not being very tall (6’0), Powell is a physical player at the catch point and is smooth as a route runner. He doesn’t blow you away with tremendous down-field speed, but plenty of receivers have proven you don’t need that to succeed.
The ability to beat press coverage with multiple releases on the line of scrimmage is another bonus.
In a class filled with so much receiver talent, prospects are bound to fall. Such a guy like Powell, who is probably a fourth-round type of player, could easily find himself available at this spot. Plus, he is an older prospect (turning 24), so there may not be a ton of upside that intrigues teams. But Powell could come in for Las Vegas and contribute quickly if needed.
