Las Vegas Raiders pre-2021 NFL Draft position review: Cornerback

Possible targets and what round to address the position

With the addition of Rasul Douglas and the possible addition of Blidi Wreh-Wilson, the Raiders are making it clear that they do not want to use an early round pick on a corner yet again. They did so last year with Damon Arnette, in 2019 with Trayvon Mullen, and went 1-2 with defensive backs in 2017.

The more likely scenario now is for the Raiders to focus on finding another cornerback, perhaps one that plays more naturally in the slot, or at least fits that bill. We know they used a fourth round pick on Amik Robertson just a year ago but you can never have enough good cornerbacks in the modern NFL.

One potential target is Oklahoma’s Tre Brown who is a bit undersized at 5-10, 185lbs but showed great speed having posted a 4.4 40 at his pro day. Brown is an experienced corner who played 51 games in four years with Oklahoma and could step in and contribute on special teams at the very least straight away.

Another potential target in the 6-7th round range is Kary Vincent out of LSU. Vincent has a similar build to Brown at 5-9, 185lbs and has great speed as well, running a 4.38 40 at his pro day. The former LSU Tiger has started 19 games in his college career but opted out of the 2020 season like many other prospects. He has some positional versatility as well as he can play free safety.

The Raiders likely won’t use any pick before the 4th round on a cornerback after their recent and potential additions but taking a flyer on a guy in the last three rounds makes sense. There is so much turnover in the defensive backfield and having a surplus young talent is always a plus.
