1st Round, OT Trevor Penning, Northern Iowa

Las Vegas needs a right tackle first and foremost. No doubt Ziegler’s aware of that, as anyone familiar with the Raiders knows about the gaping hole on that side of the offensive line. As a result, this new regime must make a statement by selecting Trevor Penning with the 22nd overall pick.

Alex Leatherwood might end up being better suited as a guard in the NFL. As a result, the need at right tackle will be the same again in April. Darian Kinnard is moving up in mock drafts and might not be available by the 22nd choice. That’s not a slight towards Penning. While not a perfect prospect, Penning possesses excellent hands, which will aid in his NFL transition. He abuses incoming defenders on film with his noteworthy strength.

His pros certainly outweigh any cons associated with being a small school prospect. The fact that he can move defensive linemen with just one arm is downright impressive. Penning possesses an exceptional motor, dominating play after play. With the right coaching, Penning could be thrown into the fire and thrive for the Raiders.
