Raiders could use RB James White’s pass catching abilities in 2022

New Las Vegas Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels might look to one of his former players, running back James White, for help in getting the run game going.

If there’s one thing that should excite Raider Nation when it comes to their team’s new head coach, it’s his proven prowess as an offensive coordinator. Yes, I’m fully aware he’s in charge of an entire team now, but where the Raiders will see his biggest impact will be as the leader of the offense. To bring a new dynamic to the offense, specifically on the ground, the team could target James White this offseason.

As Kevin Patra of NFL.com alluded to this week, it shouldn’t surprise anyone if McDaniels sees White as a pass-catching veteran who helps to “install his vision in Vegas.”

White would by no means replace Josh Jacobs or Kenyan Drake. Jacobs is the power tailback that will lead McDaniels’ power run scheme, while Drake will provide a nice boost as a “change of pace” running back. White will help out of the backfield, a role he once played before Tom Brady’s departure.

What can James White do for the Raiders?

White only had ten carries in 2021, so he’d be a low-risk, high-reward signing as long as it’s a beneficial price tag. There’s no sense in wasting top dollar on a third-string running back.

Be that as it may, no one can deny the possible impact that White could have on McDaniels’ offense. Per Pro Football Focus, White has received a receiving grade of at least 80-plus in five of the last seven seasons.

The Las Vegas Raiders have revamped their leadership, bringing in a duo in David Ziegler and Josh McDaniels that could be just what they need.

The Raiders could retain Jalen Richard, who plays a similar role as White, so this could come down to familiarity. White is a three-time Super Bowl champion, and as McDaniels tries to give life to a new culture with the Silver and Black, some championship pedigree wouldn’t hurt. Considering that White has amassed 375 receiving yards minimum each season except for his rookie campaign, he’ll certainly be of use if he can stay healthy in 2022.
