3. The Raiders hold the cards in this negotiation

Whether you’re a Carr fan or not, the Raiders are making sure they’ll hold the cards once the actual negotiating begins. There have been a lot of numbers thrown out in the last month or so, many prognosticating that he’ll get up to $40 million a year. Again, though, no word from the Raiders organization on any of that other than emphasizing this week that Carr is, by all intents and purposes, “the guy.”

Obviously, both sides are eager to know why nothing’s been done so far, but the reality is that the Raiders aren’t in any hurry. Carr is under contract, and while his agent will certainly do right by him, it’ll be done once the Raiders are ready.

Another factor is that the Silver and Black might be looking to restructure other contracts and get their financial status up to speed. Carr’s extension will likely affect how the team adds to their roster, so it could all be a matter of due diligence.

Funny enough, even though McDaniels has made the team’s intentions clear this week, the rumor mill will always churn. As Bleacher Report’s Maurice Moton stated, some things will never change. Until Carr’s extension is finally set in stone, the speculation will continue, but for the Raiders, it’ll be business as usual as they do things their way.
