Raiders: Bryan Edwards will benefit from the addition of Davante Adams

Edwards to date

In his first season with Las Vegas, Edwards did little to nothing of note. His rookie campaign consisted of just 11 receptions for 195 total yards and a single touchdown. After all of the hype surrounding him during training camp, it was nothing short of a disappointment for the third-round pick. Last season, Edwards showed improvement, amassing 34 receptions for over 570 total yards. He added three touchdowns, as well.

Now, with a true number one receiver in the fold, Edwards will have the best chance of his career to become a difference-maker. Davante Adams is the type of player who commands significant attention from an entire secondary. Opposing defenses will make it a priority to know where Adams is on the field at all times. This can lead to big things for receivers that he plays with.

A prime example of this is Allen Lazard, who played with Adams in Green Bay from 2018 to 2021. Opposite Adams, Lazard emerged as a true number two receiver. In the past three seasons, Lazard recorded over 1,400 yards and 14 touchdowns combined. Like Edwards will Lazard benefited tremendously from the game planning and attention that Adams commanded from opposing defenses.

Edwards likely has more talent than Lazard, as well. Raiders’ players and coaches alike have been exceedingly impressed by Edwards’ talent during camp. Internal comparisons for Edwards even went as far as Terrell Owens and Randy Moss, two of the all-time great receivers in NFL history.
