Any notable concerns for the Raiders regarding Rhyan?

No prospect is perfect and that’s true for Rhyan as well despite his potential upside as an NFL guard. There’s a reason he could available as late as a mid-round selection.

The biggest issue with Rhyan’s NFL transition is his pass-blocking. Though PFF gave him a solid 75.5 grade, it doesn’t tell the whole story. Rhyan lacks lateral speed and movement, which means elite pass rushers (especially those in the AFC West) will have a field day with him. Of course, this only supports the idea that Rhyan is better suited to moving inside.

While Rhyan has excellent feet and notable hands, this isn’t enough in pass protection as he has limited range due to a lack of length, which can’t be coached; either you have it or don’t.

On the other hand, the former Bruin has sufficient strength and run-blocking prowess to at least earn himself a shot in the NFL. At the same time, the Raiders (or whichever team drafts him) would make the best use of his assets as a developmental player who could see snaps in Year 2 as a swing offensive lineman if that is what’s needed.
