Raiders 2022 NFL Draft: Day 2 defensive studs to watch for
Raiders Day 2 prospect watch: Kerby Joseph, DB, Illinois
The Raiders made some moves in terms of their secondary, though much of this upcoming season’s success will rely on last year’s revelations. We’re referring to Nate Hobbs and Trevon Moehrig, who emerged as future stars for the Silver and Black, while the team’s also banking on Trayvon Mullen returning to form.
Picking up Kerby Joseph on Day 2 wouldn’t hurt, though.
At six-foot-one and 203 pounds, Joseph posted a 38.5-inch vertical jump and a 123-inch broad jump at the combine. The best word to describe Joseph would be “playmaker.” He consistently looked for the ball in college, amassing five interceptions and two pass deflections. His hands were one of his biggest strengths. He was a two-way athlete, playing wide receiver as well.
Joseph’s best fit out of the gate will be to play deep, where he can use his speed to chase down a receiver or track down the ball handler in run defense.
He’ll likely benefit from a developmental role as he needs to work on his play anticipation and will need to get stronger. Joseph lacks the prototypical strength to play in the box but could flourish if placed in the right alignment.
