Raiders 2022 free agency: 3 depth signings that still make sense

Billy Turner, Offensive Lineman

The Raiders’ general manager, Dave Ziegler, has stated no remaining offensive linemen highly intrigue him, being the market hasn’t gone the way he hoped for.

As far as the higher-end talent goes, Ziegler may have a point. Even with this statement, though, there’s no reason to believe Las Vegas wouldn’t jump at the chance to get a versatile lineman on the cheaper side.

It isn’t only defensive coordinator Patrick Graham who prioritizes versatility; It’s both Ziegler and McDaniels, as well. After all, a big reason both Eluemunor and Parker were re-signed was due to their versatility. Turner, although not a star in this league, brings starting both starting experience and immense versatility to a team.

Beyond being a depth piece, Turner has even proved to be a viable starter, starting at every position on the offensive line except center. He seems to quietly take steps forward every year while being able to fill in at a needed spot in a pinch.

This is also a player who’s been reasonably available throughout the last four seasons. In this timespan, Turner has missed six games, with four coming last year alone.

If his camp isn’t asking for too much, this fit makes a lot of sense; the Raiders add more versatility upfront, and Turner gets the chance to compete for a starting role at multiple positions.
