Raiders: Reviewing the options at the right tackle position

Jermaine Eluemunor

While Munford is my favorite pick of this year’s draft for Las Vegas and is the person I’d like to see grab the starting right tackle job if neither Parker nor Leatherwood win it, Eluemunor has the better chance to come away with the starting role between the two.

Like Parker, Eluemunor was a player Dave Ziegler brought back on a one-year deal this off-season. Of Parker, Leatherwood, and Eluemunor, the latter had the better season in 2021, albeit in a significantly smaller timeframe. In 266 snaps, the Raiders’ offensive lineman allowed 0 snaps with 0 penalties, being awarded a PFF grade of 59.8.

What gives Eluemunor an edge here is his experience with head coach Josh McDaniels. The versatile lineman spent both the ’19 and ’20 seasons with McDaniels in New England, starting 8 games in 2020. During this same ’20 season, Eluemunor ended the year with a PFF grade of 68, which is by far the highest grade by any of these four players in any season, granted Munford has yet to play in the NFL.

This familiarity is something none of the beforementioned right tackle options have, and neither is the success Eluemunor had with McDaniels in his final year as a Patriot. These are things to consider in the battle for right tackle and could be defining factors in who earns the starting job.
