Raiders’ tackle prospect watch – Blake Freeland, BYU

Blake Freeland is already projected to be a high first-round pick in 2023, and rightfully so. The six-foot-eight, 305-pound behemoth played 875 snaps last season, helping to lead Brigham Young to 10 wins in 2021, ending the season as the 19th ranked program per the Associated Press.

Freeland was a big part of quarterback Jaren Hall’s success last year, and as an efficient run blocker, he helped open up the field for Tyler Allgeier all season long. PFF graded Freeland at 91.6 in pass blocking and 76.3 for his run blocking efforts. It should be noted that he only gave up one sack as a left tackle last year.

The BYU product has some of the best footwork of any top tackle prospect in 2023. He’s got more than enough speed to get off the line and demolish defensive tackles, quickly reaching linebackers and opening up running lanes. Allgeier’s productivity is proof of this. His rare combination of both size and speed makes him dangerous because, despite his size, he can block anywhere on the line.
