The Weapons

Adams’ arrival should also elevate the rest of the Raiders receivers. Hunter Renfrow was the Raiders’ top receiver late last season and proved he could dominate in the slot but was often pressed at the line and double teamed.

With Adams in town, teams will slide coverage Adams’ way and Renfrow could eat. Renfrow also will be playing under McDaniels who has the precedent of turning small slot receivers into stars such as Wes Welker, Danny Amendola, and Julian Edelman. Renfrow received an extension and should be thrilled to work with Carr and McDaniels.

Finally, tight end Darren Waller could benefit the most. Waller has been the Raiders’ number one target for years and with teams unable to constantly double team him, he could dominate. Waller is a matchup nightmare and will now have two running mates up to his caliber.

McDaniels also features the tight end heavily and I would not be surprised to see Waller and Foster Moreau both set career highs. They should get so much 1 on 1 coverage. The Raiders’ have too many options and teams simply can’t guard all of Waller, Adams, and Renfrow. Carr should also benefit from having veteran receiver depth, rather than young guys who get lost and are not on the same page as him.

Carr should have an MVP caliber season now that he’s got one of the games’ brightest minds calling plays, his best friend catching passes, and one of the top weapons arsenal in the NFL
