Las Vegas Raiders: Top-5 Running Backs in team history
After three and a half seasons split between both Oakland and Las Vegas, Josh Jacobs has more than lived up to his first-round billing. After splitting time at the University of Alabama, the Raiders drafted him to become the bell cow of an offense that was badly searching for an identity. He burst on the scene quickly in his rookie year with 1,150 yards rushing and seven touchdowns.
From that season forward, Jacobs has been one of the league’s most reliable players. With another 1,000 yards on the ground in 2020, he notched his first Pro Bowl selection. In 2021, the rushing yards were way down but he had his best season as a receiver with 54 receptions for 348 yards receiving.
In 2022, Jacobs may be the best running back in the entire NFL. With 633 rushing yards and six touchdowns through the first six games of the season, he is on pace for over 1,700 rushing yards and seventeen touchdowns. Whether he can keep this pace is anyone’s guess, but he is doing his best to save the Raiders’ season on offense.
While the Raiders elected not to pick up the fifth-year option on Jacob’s contract, he may be playing his way into a new deal, or at the very least, a franchise tag as Las Vegas might not want to see the league’s best back leave for nothing.
