Raiders: It Is Time To Finally Move On From Derek Carr

What are the team’s options?

Two teams that stick out immediately regarding a Carr trade are the aforementioned Saints and the Indianapolis Colts. The Saints have always shown a willingness to trade draft picks, and despite their record, are a team who has the desire to win now. For the Colts, it appears to be a yearly tradition for them to add a new veteran passer.

After stints with Matt Ryan, Carson Wentz, Phillip Rivers, and Jacoby Brissett, Carr would be the best quarterback they have had since Andrew Luck.

While the trade may be difficult, they could get a valuable return. After all, Matt Ryan recently got traded for a third-round pick and Carr is several years younger and playing at a much higher level. If a team is desperate enough, it is not inconceivable that the Raiders could receive a first-round pick in return.

While much less exciting, the Raiders may just have to release Carr. Although he just signed a three-year extension, they can get out of the contract with just over five million in dead money.

This may not seem like the best option, but it might just be time to move on. With the potential for a top-five pick in a draft that’s heavily expected to be loaded at the quarterback position, it may be now or never if the team is to move on from their starter.

Of course, Carr is not a bad player by any means but all things run their course. At this point, it may be best for both sides to try something new. Since 2014 the Raiders have had two winning seasons with no playoff wins. Through multiple head coaches and general managers, Carr is the only constant. It is time to move on, for better or worse.
