Is it time that people start talking about Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs for the league’s prestigious MVP award?

The top prize for individual accolades in the NFL is arguably the “Most Valuable Player” award. While most players would agree that hoisting the Lombardi Trophy is the pinnacle of success in football, receiving the MVP nod is right up there.

By now, most people, even those who don’t follow the Raiders, are aware of the year that Jacobs is having. For a minute there, No. 28 was even the face of the league’s Twitter account. As far as receiving the prestigious honor, is Jacobs doing enough to warrant consideration?

Well, according to the latest numbers, Jacobs isn’t even considered in the top 20. Interestingly enough, quarterback Derek Carr has odds of +30000 right now. Luckily, gambling degenerates don’t determine the outcomes of these races. Despite a calf injury, Jacobs has been on a tear. He’s already breaking records for the team.

Whether that’ll be enough to sway votes remains to be seen.

It goes without saying that it’s been roughly about a generation since Raider Nation has seen one of their own be presented with the honor. In fact, the last time a Raider won it was when quarterback Rich Gannon was dubbed worthy, which was in 2002.

Speaking of past recipients, Raiders fans might not be aware of this, but it’s been a long time since a running back has won the award. Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings was the last one in 2012. That doesn’t favor Jacobs too much, as voters tend to favor a signal-caller.

It makes you wonder what Jacobs needs to do to start gaining some momentum in that conversation.
