Raiders: Derek Carr Era as QB1 will end with no farewell tour

Farewell Tour that never was

So here we sit, heading into Week 18 of the 2022 season, a season that will be Carr’s last with the franchise. Incredibly, after everything he has done for the franchise, he will have no farewell tour, and there will be no pictures of him trotting off the field and waving to the fans one last time.

Carr has not been with the team since his demotion, and while the Raiders look to end their season with a win over Kansas City, nobody had heard from No. 4 in quite some time. The fans and country have heard from his family, whether it be on television, or social media, but Carr has remained silent as his Raiders career has come to an end.

It is more than a strange ending for a man who meant so much to the franchise, and a franchise that seemed to mean so much to the man.

Once the Super Bowl ends, we will get a good look at what is to be between Carr and the Raiders, as he has a full no-trade clause, which means he would have to approve any deal. It is likely that at 31-years old, one of the best quarterbacks in team history will be cut, paving the way for the next man to hopefully get this team back to playoff relevancy.

For Carr, his legacy with the Silver and Black will be different depending on who you ask, but he gave fans some very high highs, as well as some low lows, which is all part of the business. He is a quarterback of ‘what-ifs,’ and with a new regime in town, it is clear he lost favor, and will now look to finish his career elsewhere.
