Saints get 3rd down help
One of Derek Carr’s most trusted allies has been slot receiver Hunter Renfrow. Since being drafted in 2019, he has been one of the most reliable receivers for the Raiders and a bright spot in what has been an up and down position when it comes talent around him.
He has gotten the nickname “3rd and Renfrow” because of his ability to come up clutch on 3rd down when they needed him most.
The Saints seem to have everything around them going well, except for the quarterback position and wide receiver depth. Rookie Chris Olave has stepped up in the absence of Michael Thomas and Jarvis Landry, but outside of him the Saints seem to rely on Alvin Kamara in the passing game quite a bit.
They need to figure out what they are going to do with Michael Thomas going forward. He signed a 5 year, 96-million-dollar extension with 35 million guaranteed back in 2019. Since then, he has only played in 40% of their regular season games, an underwhelming 26 of the possible 65.
They brought in Jarvis Landry last season, but he was hurt half the year and will be a free agent. They drafted Chris Olave as mentioned, but he can’t do it alone.
The Saints don’t have a first round pick this year because of moving up for Olave, but word around the grapevine is that they could be trading former head coach Sean Payton and are asking for a 1st round+ for him.
If in fact that goes down, it makes it easier to deal your only pick in the top 50 and another from next year to get a veteran quarterback, bolster your wide receiving group, and take advantage of a top 5-10 defense while you have the chance.
