The Broken Leg That Ended The 2016 Season

Ask any Raiders fan what the most exciting season in team history is and it won’t be long until 2016 is mentioned. Finishing with a 12-4 record, the team won almost all of their games with a come-from-behind drive orchestrated by Derek Carr. After a 19-16 win against the Chargers in week fifteen, they had clinched the playoffs heading into a match-up at home with the Colts.

Oakland took it to the Colts in this one as Carr had 232 yards passing and three touchdowns when the offense took control of the ball early in the fourth quarter. Looking to salt away a game that was already a blowout, Carr dropped back on third down and took a sack that would change the direction of his career.

He would suffer a fractured bone in his leg that kept him out for the rest of the season, as well as the playoffs. Of course, the Raiders’ season effectively ended on this day as well as Connor Cook and Matt McGloin could not keep the offense afloat.

Since this game, things have not been the same for the Raiders. Carr appeared to be hesitant to get hit from this moment forward and often outright refused to leave the pocket or make plays with his legs. If he never suffers this injury, the Raiders may make a run in the playoffs. Alas, it wasn’t meant to be.
