JaMarcus Russell sat out todays practice after sitting out last night.
Coach Lane Kiffin said X-rays were “fine.”
“None whatsoever,” Russell said when asked if there was anything to be overly concerned about. “I’m OK and I’m pretty happy.”
That said, there are no guarantees Russell will practice during the Raiders double session Thursday at 9 a.m. and 7 p.m.

JaMarcus Russell Hurt?
NFL writer Jerry McDonald had this to report on JaMarcus Russell’s absents from the Oakland Raiders’ Tuesday evening practice.
Russell was seen shaking his right arm during the morning session, and when Kiffin said, “He’s fine,” without elaborating.
Following practice Tuesday evening, during which Russell spent part of the time with an ice bag wrapped around his right elbow, Kiffin came directly over to reporters.
“He did nick his elbow a little bit today on the back of (Darren) McFadden’s helmet and we didn’t foresee it as an issue because when we checked him out after practice he was fine,” Kiffin said. “He [...]
With all the training camps now up and running, it couldn’t be a better time to take a look at how the Oakland Raiders competition within the AFC West. Not only am I going to examine the rosters of the teams us Raider fans hate most, but the Fan-Sided blogger’s for the Chiefs, Broncos, and Chargers have weighed in on the same topic.
San Diego Chargers
When honestly examining this Chargers team, it’s hard for me to talk a lot of smack. There are to many players on this roster that I wanted Oakland before the Chargers drafted or signed them. But [...]
Raider Camp (Days 1-4)
Here are some note and links on the first 4 days of Oakland Raider training camp.
Ronald Curry looks like the best receiver so far. I’d actually be surprised if the only returning receiver (worth mentioning) wasn’t ahead of the new Raiders. With plenty of good comments for Drew Carter during the mini-camps and OTA’s, and Javon Walker looking in great shape, there’s plenty to be happy about.
The Raiders announced the LaMont Jordan was finally released on Friday, with him landing with the Patriots on Saturday. Unless Jordan improves his conditioning he’ll be cut before the season starts.

No restrictions on Walker
Lane Kiffin said a couple hours ago that Javon Walker will not miss the start of Oakland Raider training camp.
While still not specifying the injuries Javon Walker sustained in his Las Vegas attack, Kiffin said the wide receiver will practice with no restrictions related to the incident and is in fact in better shape than he was before being beaten and robbed.
Kiffin said Walker has lost eight pounds, his body fat is down, and expressed hope that the receiver has learned his lesson about who and who not to trust. -Inside The Oakland Raiders
Wow, that really answers some of the questions I wanted [...]
Asomugha signs in time for camp
Nnamdi Asomugha could’ve gotten out of a good chunck of the Oakland Raiders training camp, and no one would’ve been surprised. Every year (i.e. Terrell Suggs this season) several franchised players wait until the last possible moment to sign; sometimes even months after the deadline to sign a taged player to a contract extension has passed. It says a lot that Asomugha came to camp on the check-in day to sign the contract in time to make today’s first practice. He wouldn’t have been under contract, so he could’ve missed a good portion of preseason without being fined for his [...]
Nothing we didn’t see coming, but ESPN is reporting that the Oakland Raiders have told running back LaMont Jordan to stay away from the Napa training facilities. Jordan would like to be cut, but the Raiders are still adamant about trading him. If Jordan leaves Oakland pissed off because the Raiders held onto him for so long, limiting his chance to start for any other team, the feeling will be mutual. Jordan has burned a lot of bridges while in Oakland, and deserves nothing but the door.
For the second time in seven weeks, the Raiders have told running [...]
Depth Chart Check (WR & TE)
I took a couple days off from my inspection of the Oakland Raiders depth chart to do a couple other things, but with the players checking into the Napa Marriott in the next 24 hours it’s time to get back to it.
No.1 Javon Walker
Walker will be examined early and often by Raider coaches during training camp. He may be cleared to play by then, but it’s still unclear what to expect from the wide receiver. Walker was held out of the second practices of the mandatory mini-camp and OTA’s. Twice Kiffin referred to Walker’s weight, once telling the Sacramento Bee,“he’s [...]
Safety support
It is a common trend in the NFL for talented, but aging NFL veterans to change teams within their division. Neil Smith went to Denver, Marcus Allen went to K.C., and now Greg Wesley heads to Oakland. Small joke; there’s no way I can compare the Smith and Allen transfers to Wesley’s arrival. But there is one thing that should occur in a similar fashion. Players often persuade themselves into getting revenge on the teams that let’em go, and if they can’t help their new team on the field, they know they can help them prepare during the week.
Wesley was disgruntled with his old team before the 2007 season [...]
Tim Brown on Favre
Ex-Oakland Raider and future Hall of Famer Tim Brown had some comments that made a few headlines last Friday.
Now if you watch the Favre segment of PTI video above you’ll hear them mention one quote that is not printed in the LA Times link from the last sentence. That Tim Brown thinks Brett Favre should just go back to Mississippi and keep quiet. Brown told me he never said that, but he did speak to me at length about the Favre situation and the quotes that were printed all over.
Brown believes that not only has Favre made things difficult for [...]
