Leading up to the 2014 NFL Draft, resident draftnik and Just Blog Baby Podcast cohost Rory Anderson will be releasing updates to his 2014 Mock Draft with notes from JBB Editor Chase Ruttig. Here are Rory’s Round One thoughts.

#1 Houston Texans: Blake Bortles, QB UCF

Rory’s Take: If this happens I am simply going to laugh. McClain of the Chronicle says the Texans will go quarterback, but the idea of Bortles going first just sickens me.

Chase’s Take: Bortles was the only QB to throw at the combine who has a realistic shot of going in the Top 10 and he also ran a solid 4.93 40 yard dash that shows his ability to be a dual threat guy. Bortles has been rumored to be potentially higher on Bill O’Brien’s board than Teddy Bridgewater even if it is pretty much accepted that Bridgewater is the better prospect on film and has put in serious hours in the gym. Still Bortles has an impressive win over Bridgewater’s Louisville team and a win of Baylor in the Fiesta Bowl to his resume and it wouldn’t surprise me to see a team reach for him, even the Texans.
