Former Oakland Raiders defensive back Mike Mitchell did not have his best outing on Monday Night Football, which of course led to fans of his new team in the Pittsburgh Steelers to flood his Twitter account with hate despite their team pulling out a win on the road against the Titans in a come from behind victory.

“Trolling” athletes (and anyone in sports, including this very blog) on Twitter isn’t new and on most days the abusive comments are ignored, but on Monday night Mitchell wasn’t about to turn the other cheek. In fact the veteran defensive talent decided to fight fire with fire, telling a fan to “kill yourself” as well as “die broke.”
Subsequently the Steelers have banned Mike Mitchell from social media for his outburst, one that was unprofessional but also understandable given the amount of abuse athletes take on Twitter daily.
Mitchell sent the tweets via direct message, but with someone going to the media with them the Steelers were left with no choice but to punish their player for making rude comments on social media. Raiders fans miss Mitchell as they could use him at the safety position still, perhaps if the Steelers get annoyed with him further he can find his way back to Oakland in the future.
