Charles Woodson has been one of the best safeties in football at the age of 38, anchoring an underrated Oakland Raiders defense while making the types of plays that have been expected of the former Heisman winner from Michigan ever since he stepped onto the map in the 90’s. That was evident again in the Raiders first win of the season on Thursday Night Football, where Woodson dominated and made several huge tackles to continue to cement his status as one of the greatest of all time at 38 years old.
In fact, Woodson has been playing so good in the 2014 season that he has no plans of making this 2014 season in Oakland his last. Telling the media this week that he plans on playing in 2015, despite being on a one year contract with the Raiders.
“No question,” Woodson said when asked about playing in 2015, per the Associated Press.
Woodson, who is 38, may be able to play into his 40’s, something that would be legendary given the modern game not being kind to players who are over the age of 30, let alone nearing 40 years of age playing defensive back. For now Woodson is mainly focused on how great he is feeling, and playing.

“I’m not thinking about going into the 40s but I don’t know. I’ll continue to say it: I feel great. Why that is, I have no clue. I’ll play this season out and we’ll see what happens after that.”
It is likely that Woodson wants a much more memorable and fitting end to his career than the 1-10 season the Raiders are currently going through. With a young roster surely set to improve over the offseason, retaining Woodson would be a huge boost for a team that relies on the veteran to be a leader on defense and to make big plays at safety. Even at 38, Woodson is one of the most exciting and high impact safeties in the league, so it is good news that he is contemplating a 2015 season which would likely be played in Oakland.
