San Diego Chargers

4th Place – AFC West

Record: 5-10
Last Game: lost to Cleveland Browns (1-14) 20-17 in Cleveland
Next Game: vs. Kansas City Chiefs (11-3) Sun, Jan 2, 4:25 EST

The Chargers have nobody to blame but themselves for their current record, having squandered double-digit leads in the fourth quarter five times this season. They are the NFL’s definition of Kanye West — talented and troubled, and unable to get out of their own way.

Joey Bosa is in a dogfight with Jalen Ramsey for NFL defensive rookie of the year. Ramsey has been an adhesive corner all year who’s just getting better. But Bosa has been a pass rushing AND run stuffing machine, as a rookie. That just doesn’t happen. My vote is for Bosa.

He is the best thing to happen to San Diego in 2016. The best thing in 2017? Drafting high again, and getting some very key pieces back from injury.

But wait, there’s more! The Chargers still have an opportunity to affect the AFC West champions. If they actually decide to give it one more try and play football against the Chiefs, they could win. If they do this, the Raiders would automatically be AFC West champions.

Or the Chargers could decide to do what they did in Cleveland and forget about showing up for the majority of the game. In that case, the Chiefs would win. This means the Raiders would then have to beat the Broncos or the Chiefs would be divisional champions.

It all comes down to the last week of the season. That’s the way it’s supposed to be. The Raiders mentality and mantra of “whatever it takes” will be tested to the Nth degree from here on out as they try to win without driving the Carr.
