Recent Games

However you want to slice it, the first five games of the 2017 NFL season have not gone the Raiders and Chargers’ ways. They have combined to go 3-7 through five weeks. Oakland won its first two games of the season over the Tennessee Titans and the New York Jets before dropping three in a row.

Outside of the Sunday Night Football debacle in Week 3 versus the Washington Redskins, the Raiders have been to some degree in all their other games.

They lost in Week 4 on the road to the Denver Broncos by a possession. Week 5’s loss at home was within a score at times during the game.

Similarly, the Chargers have been in four of their first five games. They only have last week’s road win over the New York Giants to show for it. A pair of kicking gaffes saw the Chargers begin at 0-2 with losses to the Broncos and the Miami Dolphins.

The Chargers had no chance against the division rival Kansas City Chiefs in Week 3, but hung around with the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 4. Football is a game of inches. If a few plays went the other way, would be looking at a pair of 3-2 teams duking it out on Sunday for AFC wild card positioning. Instead, we’re dealing with essentially an elimination game.
