The Oakland Raiders pull off the upset of the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday Night Football, 31-30. Here are all the highlights, game recap and final score.

You’re not going to get a crazier finish than what just happened at The Coliseum. The Oakland Raiders shock the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday Night Football 31-30 to stay alive in the AFC playoff picture. Oakland improves to 3-4, while Kansas City is now on a losing streak of their own at 5-2.

The last five plays of this game were simply ridiculous. Oakland was down 30-24 with 23 seconds left in the game. Quarterback Derek Carr thought he found tight end Jared Cook for the game-winning touchdown. Upon further review, Cook would be downed on an incredible catch by a foot.

After a 10-second run off, Carr thought he had another game-winning touchdown pass to Michael Crabtree. Too bad Crabtree got called for a blatant pass interference call. Carr would target Cook again on what was to be the final play of the game. Kansas City would get flagged for holding.

With one free play, Carr would try to connect with wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson at the back of the end zone. While he didn’t get both feet in bounds, Kansas City would be flagged for holding on a second-straight play.

On the fifth potential game-winning play for the Raiders, Carr would find Crabtree at the front of the end zone by the left pylon. Giorgio Tavecchio would seal the deal with the PAT that would get the Raiders over the top at 31-30.

This game was wacky with so many unbelievable plays. Amari Cooper broke out of his slump in a big way on Thursday night with a pair of impressive touchdowns and over 200 receiving yards. Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith played well and had a pair of 60-yard touchdowns to give the Chiefs the lead throughout the ball game.

This was a game that Oakland needed in the worst way. It didn’t seem like the Raiders were going to be able to do it. The defense buckled down thanks in large part to the new addition of veteran linebacker NaVorro Bowman.

While the Raiders lost to a division rival last week by a point in the final second, the football gods had their back this week to return the favor. This is a great win the Raiders can build on heading into their mini bye.

Three Stars

  1. Derek Carr: Carr completed 29 of 52 passes for 417 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. He also had one run for 15 yards.
  2. Amari Cooper: Cooper had 11 catches for 210 yards and two touchdowns.
  3. Alex Smith: Smith completed 25 of 36 passes for 342 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions.

With this one-point win, it feels like the Raiders have taken back control of their season. 3-4 isn’t where this team needs to be, but this is a game that Oakland had to have heading into its mini bye. Well done, guys!
