AFC West standings, Week 11: This division is awful

Things are not going very well for teams in the AFC West. Only the Los Angeles Chargers won in Week 11. Here are the updated standings in the division.

There are only six weeks left in the 2017 NFL regular season. While the playoff picture is becoming increasingly important, it’s about as murky as ever in the AFC. One reason for this has been the horrible play out late out of the AFC West.

Many saw this division as the crème de la crème of the AFC entering this season. The Kansas City Chiefs and the Oakland Raiders have serious Super Bowl aspirations. That does not seem to be the case any more. Even the Denver Broncos and the Los Angeles Chargers have decent playoff aspirations, though neither looks to anything close to being playoff caliber through 11 weeks.

Here are the updated standings in the AFC West through Week 11.

Kansas City leads both Los Angeles and Oakland by two games in the division. That being said, Kansas City has been terrible of late. After their 5-0 start to the year, Kansas City has lost four of five games. If the Chiefs can’t run the ball, they struggle to put up points.

The Eric Berry injury back in Week 1 grows more devastating by the week. Though the Chiefs are still the favorite to win the division, they are likely a No. 4 seed and will probably lose at home in the AFC Wild Card round. Simply put, Kansas City is a total mess through 11 weeks.

Los Angeles is the hottest team in the division, which means next to nothing. The Chargers just waxed Nathan Peterman and the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. That win has them in second place in the AFC West at 4-6 by virtue of the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Raiders.

It might sound crazy, but there is a way that the Chargers can win this division at 9-7 or get the No. 6 seed at 8-8. Keep an eye on them going forward. The Bolts are sure to keep things interesting in this lackluster divisional race.

Oakland just got trounced by the New England Patriots down in Mexico City. After a 2-0 start, Oakland proceeded to lose four in a row. While they have split their last four games at 2-2, this team is not well coached and it’s kind of embarrassing to see a team with this much talent struggle this much.

Then, there’s Denver. What a dumpster fire this Broncos team has become. They have lost an unthinkable six games in a row. The Broncos have not won since beating Oakland at home by six points back on Oct. 1. With no hope at quarterback, this looks to be a lost season for the Broncos.

Technically, all four rival teams are still in this divisional race. It’s almost like who wants to lose this division the least at this point. Denver is probably out of it, as no 3-7 team has ever made it into the NFL playoffs before.

So either the Chiefs, Chargers or Raiders will be playing playoff football in January. As it stands now, this is the worst division in football. The AFC is not in good shape. If you need more prove of this, the Jacksonville Jaguars (7-3) are the No. 3 seed. It’s New England, the Pittsburgh Steelers and pretty much everybody else.
