AFC West Roundup Week 11: Raiders and Chiefs in race for the top spot
Kansas City Chiefs
Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs traveled to Mexico City for a divisional matchup with Philip Rivers and the Los Angeles Chargers, in a game where Raiders fans, temporarily, had a Chargers win in their interests. With a Chargers win, the Raiders would not only vault into a playoff spot, but first place in the AFC West.
Unfortunately, Raiders fans’ prayers went unanswered, and the Chiefs left Azteca Stadium with a 24-17 victory thanks to a clutch interception at the goal line with under a minute left in the fourth quarter. Kansas City’s offense may not have been great in this one, but their defense stepped up and made plays when it needed to.
Kansas City gets a victory, but it was not the dominant victory we came to expect, in contrast to last year’s team. If anything, Monday night showed that this Chiefs team, just a half-game ahead of the Raiders, are beatable.
This week, the Chiefs get their bye, before playing host to the Oakland Raiders for the divisional lead.
