Las Vegas Raiders 2020 Rookie Roles: Wide Receiver Bryan Edwards
What his role will be as a rookie
The goal is for Edwards to be an immediate impact receiver from the start, and understandably it hinges on his health heading into the season. But if the latest indication is that his body is fully healthy, that bodes well for the Raiders. And so far, Edwards has already begun impressing his newfound teammates in Las Vegas.
Edwards, along with first-round pick Henry Ruggs III, impressed veterans and defensive backs alike in the Raiders’ player-driven workouts in Vegas. Edwards’ workout video, in particular, drew excitement on social media, and if there is a player comparison that Edwards could work towards, Derek Carr may have put it best: Anquan Boldin.
With his size and attention to detail in route running, Edwards could use that to his advantage like Boldin, stiff-arming defenders and making plays after the catch. His size could also be a useful advantage in the red zone, where the Raiders’ woes have been well documented.
Competition in the AFC West may have gotten stiffer, and the Raiders need to leverage every advantage at their disposal to finish games in the win column. With drafting Bryan Edwards, Las Vegas may have a steal on their hands, and a matchup nightmare for their opponents.
