Buffalo Bills at Las Vegas Raiders: 3 things we learned in Week 4

The Defense is really bad

We were expecting some struggles on defense due to new players adjusting and young players having to step up into roles, but it’s been worse than we thought it could be.  Is it Paul Guenther’s system? Is it the players?  Is it firing Brentson Buckner and replacing him with Rod Marnelli?  I don’t know, I don’t have the answers ,and neither does the entire Raiders defense or coaching staff.

This defense refuses to create a turnover, or get a stop that doesn’t include multiple passes dropped by the opposing receivers.  The defensive secondary looked confused once again, and was aggressively biting on the Bills receivers double moves all game.  Once again, the defensive line struggled to create any pressure on Josh Allen, and the only sack was on a play where Allen held on to the ball for too long and should’ve just thrown it away.

Yes, there have been some injuries on defense sure, but please tell me why on almost every play the defensive backs were giving about 15 yards worth of cushion.  Trayvon Mullen, who has been the best player on the defense and maybe the whole team this year, got caught several times trailing a wide receiver, being out of position, and missing multiple tackles.

I don’t think firing Paul Guenther is going to fix everything, but something needs to happen soon or else next week is going to be a bloodbath.
