The Raiders safety group has a nice mix of youth and experience but there is always a need for more versatile and talented playmakers. So with the 208th overall pick, the Raiders select safety Jahdae Barron out of Texas to add to that group.

Barron is a prospect that some teams may overlook because of his lack of elite size at 5-11 and 192lbs but he has impressive speed with a 4.45 40 and some solid numbers to back it up. In 2 years as a starter, Barron had 110 tackles, 3 interceptions, and an average QB rating of 66.5 when targeted by opposing QBs.

Scouts rave about his instincts in coverage and his ability to read and recognize plays before using his top end speed to make plays on the ball. There were some concerns about him getting overpowered physically by bigger receivers and tight ends which is valid given his smaller stature.

An extra 10 lbs could help him overcome that and we’ve all seen the benefits of a pro-level strength program on young players. Barron would be an absolute steal this late in the draft and a great selection for the Raiders.
