Derek Carr, Amari Cooper up for weekly awards

The Oakland Raiders lit up the scoreboard through the air on Sunday in their upset win over the Baltimore Ravens, so it is no surprise that on Tuesday two of their star offensive players are up for NFL weekly awards for their Week 2 performances. Both Derek Carr and Amari Cooper earning recognition for their outstanding efforts against the Ravens.

Carr has been nominated for the Week 2 FedEx Air and Ground Player of the Week award, earning his nomination after throwing for 351 yards and three touchdowns on Sunday. Three touchdowns that included a late second game winner to Seth Roberts to seal the victory.

Other players nominated for the Week 2 award are Ben Roethlisberger, Tom Brady, Giovani Bernard, Matt Jones and Adrian Peterson. All players who had outstanding games on Sunday and will be tough competition for Carr to win the award from, especially with two superstar quarterbacks in Brady along with Big Ben up for the award.

The FedEx Air and Ground Player of the Week is a fan-voted award, so the Raider Nation can vote Carr to the award by clicking the following link.

While Carr is up for the Air and Ground Player of the Week, the fourth overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft in Amari Cooper is up for the Pepsi Rookie of the Week for Week 2.

Cooper had the first 100-yard receiving day of his career in the win over the Ravens, eventually hauling in seven passes from Carr for a 109-yard performance. The biggest catch of his afternoon being a 68-yard catch and dash touchdown on the Raiders opening drive to get the momentum going for the Raiders big upset over the Ravens.

The other four rookies nominated are Arizona Cardinals running back David Johnson, Washington running back Matt Jones, Tampa Bay quarterback and first overall pick Jameis Winston, and Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Marcus Peters.

Like the Air and Ground Player of the Week, the Pepsi Rookie of the Week is also fan-voted. Those who want to push Cooper to the Rookie of the Week Award can do so at the following link on the NFL.com website.

Expect both Cooper and Carr to have a good chance of taking home the awards if the Raider Nation gets to the online polls, a fan vote the perfect opportunity for two bright young stars to get some recognition.
