Good news is coming in droves for the Oakland Raiders in the final days before 2015 NFL Free Agency as the team with the second most cap space this offseason are set to splash in an attempt to become contenders for a playoff spot in the AFC this upcoming season. Planning on pushing hard for top name talent, the Raiders have already been attached to Randall Cobb for $11 million per season and now have rumblings that they will be meeting with the most coveted free agent of the class next week when teams are officially allowed to talk to free agents.

More from Las Vegas Raiders Free Agency

According to the NFL Network’s Mike Silver, the Raiders will be meeting with Ndamukong Suh next week, making it likely that the coveted defensive tackle is taking Oakland as a serious option for his next landing spot should general manager Reggie McKenzie be willing to put up the big money that Suh is going to be commanding for his talents.

Reports indicate that Suh is looking for JJ Watt money and then maybe some more, with his sights targeted on being one of the highest paid defensive players in the history of the game. Last year Suh made around $22 million for his last season with the Lions and a similar number is expected after helping the Lions make the playoffs where they were a controversial call away from beating the Dallas Cowboys in a memorable playoff contest.

The topic of the $22 million will likely be discussed at the meeting that Silver is reporting will happen in the early stages of the period in which front offices can discuss contracts with players and their agents.

There will be plenty of competition for Suh, who is surely going to meet with multiple teams before making his decision, but the Raiders getting an early meeting could be a promising sign that the interior defensive lineman is open to the idea of wearing the Silver and Black. Whether or not the Raiders fit Suh’s ideas of competing for a Super Bowl is up for debate, but the team certainly has the cap space to bring him in as well other pieces that could entice him into coming to Oakland.

  • Suh would also fit the Raiders defensive scheme, with noted defensive mind Jack Del Rio likely to use two defensive tackles in his playbook next year as Antonio Smith along with promising youngster Jelly Ellis are already on the books. So if Suh is to sign with the Raiders he won’t have to move to nose tackle, something he is likely not going to accept from any team with a long list of options to choose from.

Other teams are going to be in the mix for Suh including ones with large cap space such as the Jaguars along with the Dolphins in Florida where there is zero state tax. Staying with the Lions also remains a large possibility if they match a deal he gets offered on the open market so the Raiders have a long way to go. A meeting with Suh is a start, but Reggie McKenzie and Mark Davis better have one hell of a sales pitch if the most coveted player in 2015 Free Agency is going to end up in Oakland when all is said and done.
